The clutter on my desk took me back almost 70 years, to the sweet, clean smell of my Aunt's house in St. Louis. Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt. I wrote about a coffee mug that I use every morning.

(Nb: I shall not share a photo) "Object" write: My black H&M athletic pants, purchased pre-Covid at a mall in Chiang Mai. A zip at the ankles where the fabric clutches my ankles giving the pants a parachute look. The inner panel of the pants—from crotch to ankle—are constructed of sheer fabric. I didn’t notice this until this year; six years of having worn these pants in outdoor markets, on buses, in temples. I’d been flashing my inner thighs and inner things to the public.

The Dinette Set

We live in a motor home and travel, chasing those 70° temps mainly. When we took it over, the couple that had owned it before us took immaculate care of it, the Damian Astoria diesel pusher. Still, there were things that after living in it a year or so, needed to be changed. Like the flooring. We hate carpet and dogs. We removed the carpet, kept the dogs, and added a couple of rugs.

The other thing was the dinette banquette. It was uncomfortable and every motor home has one just like it. I wanted a free-standing table and chairs, or a build in desk of some sort. Problem was, the area is too small for what I was envisioning. We bought a cute little square table and two chairs situation, and now I hate it.

It was cheap on Amazon, fit the space, except you can't fit the chairs in but one way. It's uncomfortable for the person with their back to the kitchen. It's rickety, so either the bus isn't square or the carpet remnant isn't laid properly, or the legs on the table are jacked up.

It's so tiny, that we can't afford to pile junk on it, but we still do. We barely have room for our plates and food!

I saw myself writing at it, or doing one of my many crafts, but it's just to small. With my back issues, I can't sit that long anymore anyway. In the end, I guess it serves its purpose…barely.

I wonder how long it took her to make the mushroom on the mug. Did she see it paying for a margarita in Mexico?

I loved the story you shared about the phone. I’m not great at writing short, but feeling inspired. On to day 2. I’m quite late to the party but plan on catching up!

Welcome! The prompts will stay here after the end of the month, and you're very welcome to work at your own pace!

I liked the reading examples, particularly the first one. However, all three had sad endings. It seems to me literary magazines gravitate toward stories, especially flash, with somber tones and sad endings. Must all flash be sad and somber? Where's the fun stories?
